Location: Dahlgren Chapel of the Sacred Heart Map

John Cassian is a pivotal figure in the development of monasticism. Perhaps surprisingly, he is also a splendid example of how early Christian teachers transmitted even as they transformed the values of Greco-Roman culture. Taking Cassian's conference "On Friendship" as a prime example, this presentation showed how one of the classical world's noblest ideals was reshaped according to the mind of Christ.

The 9th Annual Costan Lecture in Early Christianity was delivered by Luke Timothy Johnson, a world-renowned New Testament scholar. A reception followed the event in Dahlgren Quad.

This event was co-sponsored by Georgetown University's Department of Theology and Religious Studies and Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs.
