Stephanie Saldaña is a journalist and religion scholar from San Antonio, Texas, who has spent most of the last 20 years living in the Middle East. Saldaña studied religion at Harvard Divinity School and is the author of A Country Between: Making a Home Where Both Sides of Jerusalem Collide (2017) and The Bread of Angels: A Journey to Love and Faith (2011), which she wrote after moving to Syria on a Fulbright grant to study Jesus in Islam.

During this informal gathering, students heard about Saldaña’s latest work, What We Remember Will Be Saved: A Story of Refugees and the Things They Carry (2023), which tells the stories of how refugees carried their culture with them when fleeing Iraq and Syria.
