The Doyle Engaging Difference Program - Georgetown University

Lawrence Mararac (SFS’26) is a sophomore enrolled in the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q). He currently majors in culture and politics and minors in philosophy. His primary interests lie within the humanities, particularly focused on ethnography, examining the different cultural patterns and human interactions. He also enjoys traveling the world and uncovering the histories that lie within the countries he goes to and attempts to combine this with his academic interests. Recently, he was chosen to participate in a special course at GU-Q titled Zones of Conflict, Zones of Peace which included immersive study of Post-Apartheid South Africa, including visits to Cape Town and Johannesburg—themes that also inspired his current research endeavors. He reflected on his experience as an international student in Qatar as part of the spring 2024 Doyle Global Dialogue cohort.
