Advanced Oral Communication

Advanced Oral Communication (CHIN 313) was designed to enhance the oral communication skills of students who have completed at least three years of Chinese at the college level. This class strengthened students’ ability in speaking and critical thinking. On the one hand, it presented various topics with useful vocabulary, Chinese idioms, expressions, and speech patterns to help students develop quality oral communication skills in Chinese. On the other hand, this course helped students to explore and discuss in-depth about diverse aspects of the social issues in China, which includes gender equality, ethnicity, ethics and morality, pop culture, education, economy, legal system, politics, and more. Students were guided to conduct a professional academic research paper, and to give a formal presentation in Chinese. This course was taught by Pei-Shan Yu as a Doyle Seminar in fall 2022. Please refer to the current course catalog for an up-to-date description of the course.
