The Doyle Engaging Difference Program - Georgetown University

The program is designed to foster a culture of dialogue among Georgetown students, preparing them to engage in and ultimately lead constructive conversations on critical issues on-campus and beyond.

Students who are studying abroad—Main Campus domestic and international students, as well as Hoyas from Georgetown University in Qatar—reflect on their experiences of religion, culture, politics, and society in their host countries.

Brammer, the inaugural director and current director of outreach and instructional development for the Parrhesia Program for Public Discourse at the University of Chicago, spoke about "Embracing Open Inquiry: Navigating the Landscapes of Classroom Discourse."

Georgetown students learned to examine the myriad ways that race, racial identity, and racism infiltrate the entertainment media industry in the fall 2022 Doyle Seminar on Pop Culture, Race, and the Media (JOUR 378), taught by former USA Today entertainment journalist Arienne Thompson, who is also an adjunct lecturer in Georgetown University’s Journalism Program.

Georgetown students explored creative approaches to adapting LGBTQ+ historical materials into performance through the spring 2022 class Performing LGBTQ+ History (TPST 242), co-taught by Michael T. Williams, artistic advisor to co-curricular theater, and Sivagami Subbaraman, founding director of Georgetown’s LGBTQ Resource Center.

Georgetown students learned a critical and empathetic approach to homelessness and expanded their journalism skills through the class Media and Social Justice, a Doyle Seminar taught by Ann Oldenburg, assistant director of the Journalism Program at Georgetown University, in fall 2021.
